ATTENTION BORDERS SONGWRITERS

The New Makars Trust (which includes such songsters as Gifford Lind and Ewan McVicar) has been developed over the last 10 years to bring professional songwriters into schools and community groups throughout Scotland to enable local people to create their own songs reflecting their own lives.

The Trusts first big project was in the Kingdom of Fife, 1997-2000, creating and gathering hundreds of songs. The success of this project won Scottish Arts Council funding which has been used in South Lanarkshire and several other Scottish communities.

This year, 2006, Peebles Music Centre was approached regarding the possibility of a similar project taking place in the Scottish Borders. With our rich cultural heritage and beautiful scenery we feel this is a fantastic opportunity for local songwriters to help others reach their songwriting potential and document life in our region.

This is a very exciting prospect for those of us living and working in the Scottish Borders, therefore we have arranged for Gifford, Ewan and others with experience within this project to talk to any interested songwriters from our region. This informal and informative session will take place in the Eastgate Theatre, Peebles on Sunday 4th February 2007 approximately 3pm with a performance from our vivitors in the evening.
